Verdict in Kristijonas Bartoševičius Criminal Case – in July

2025-05-30

On Thursday, the Panevėžys Regional Court concluded the hearing of Kristijonas Bartoševičius's criminal case. During today's session, the defendant finished delivering his final statement. He began this speech during the previous session, and it lasted for over three and a half hours in total.

After hearing the defendant, the court concluded the case proceedings and retired to write the verdict. The panel of three judges plans to announce their decision on July 10th. The defendant's presence in court for the sentencing is mandatory.

The former MP is accused of sexual abuse, corruption of a person under the age of sixteen, and minor health impairment. Due to its nature and because the victims are minors, the case was heard in closed court sessions.

Even before the defendant finished his final statement, on May 27th, the court extended the temporary restriction on his property rights to funds held in the bank for the fifth time. The former MP is prohibited from using this money for another 6 months, i.e., until November 27th.

"The case is in the stage of closing arguments, and until their hearing is concluded, the temporary restriction on property rights is a necessary condition for securing the fulfillment of existing civil claims," noted Judge Valdas Ciesiūnas, "without it, the recovery of potential damages could be complicated."
