Long-serving Panevėžys Regional Court Judge Algirdas Gaputis Retires
On Friday, the community of the Panevėžys Regional Court solemnly bid farewell to Algirdas Gaputis, a long-serving judge of the Criminal Cases Division, as he concluded his professional career. His judicial powers officially ceased on May 24th.
During the farewell ceremony, the court's president, Donatas Jatužis, presented Judge A. Gaputis with letters of appreciation from the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, and the Judicial Council. The Head of State expressed gratitude to the judge for his many years of impeccable work, high professional competence, and dedication to the mission of a judge.
"Judge Algirdas Gaputis's legal career is truly impressive – a remarkable 42 years. Of these, he worked for 6 years at the Panevėžys District Court and nearly 24 years at the Regional Court," said court president Donatas Jatužis. He also highlighted the large number of cases the judge handled: "As a court of first instance, the judge heard approximately 400 cases, delivering over 200 judgments in cases involving serious and grave crimes. In the appellate instance, nearly 1,400 cases were heard, and about 700 administrative offense cases were heard on appeal." The Chairman added that these statistics only include data from 2004 onwards, meaning the total number of cases heard is considerably higher.
Judge Algirdas Gaputis not only presided over cases, but he also performed administrative duties for a year and a half, temporarily serving as the Chairman of the Criminal Cases Division from December 2023.
On behalf of the court community, the court's president thanked the judge for his professionalism, constructive approach, excellent legal insights, ability to work in a team, extraordinary energy, and determination.
To honor and send off Judge A. Gaputis into retirement, Prosecutor General Nida Grunskienė, who worked for many years at the Panevėžys Regional Prosecutor's Office, as well as the current heads of the Panevėžys Regional and District Prosecutor's Offices, and former fellow judges, were present. The attendees thanked the judge for many years of cooperation, valuable legal lessons, and a shared journey. Everyone wished him to find new enjoyable activities, to not forget his colleagues, and to enjoy time dedicated to himself and his loved ones.
