Long-serving judge of the Panevėžys Regional Court Sigitas Bagdonavičius retires
The staff of the Panevėžys Regional Court, institutional partners, former fellow judges, and other distinguished guests bid farewell to long-serving Criminal Division Judge Sigitas Bagdonavičius, whose judicial mandate ends on January 3, 2026.
President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda, Chair of the Judicial Council Danguolė Bublienė, and the Association of Judges of the Republic of Lithuania expressed their gratitude to Judge Sigitas Bagdonavičius for his exceptional professional competence, sincere dedication to the judicial mission, and long-standing pursuit of truth.
"Sigitas Bagdonavičius served as a judge for three decades of his professional career. Nearly six years at the Panevėžys District Court, three years at the Panevėžys Regional Administrative Court, and almost 21 years at the Regional Court. For 10 years, he headed the Criminal Division of the Regional Court. Since 2005 alone, when cases began to be registered in the court information system, he has heard 2,235 cases," stated Court President Donatas Jatužis, adding that considering the judge has been working since 1995, the total number of cases resolved would be significantly higher.
On behalf of the staff, the Court President thanked the judge for his constructive cooperation, valuable knowledge, advice, smooth teamwork, and warm communication.
Among those arriving to honor Judge Sigitas Bagdonavičius were the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Lithuania Nida Grunskienė, who worked for many years at the Panevėžys Regional Prosecutor's Office, current heads of the Panevėžys regional and district prosecutor's offices, the Deputy Chief of the Panevėžys County Chief Police Headquarters, the Head of the Panevėžys Board of the Financial Crime Investigation Service, and former judicial colleagues.
As of January 4, 2026, 7 out of 9 judicial positions will be filled in the Criminal Division of the Panevėžys Regional Court (two positions remain vacant).
