Appeal Against the Detention of Justina Sadauskienė Dismissed
On Thursday, having examined the appeal filed by the defense counsel of Justina Sadauskienė regarding her detention, the Panevėžys Regional Court ruled that the suspect shall remain in custody.
The Regional Court upheld the restrictive measure – detention for a period of two months – imposed on Justina Sadauskienė by the pre-trial investigation judge. The term of detention is calculated from April 21, the actual day of her arrest.
The panel of judges noted that at this stage of the proceedings, detention is a proportionate measure given the severity of the criminal offenses allegedly committed by Justina Sadauskienė, and that the suspect's rights have been restricted without violating the requirement of proportionality.
The court also emphasized that detention is necessary to safeguard the public interest – namely, to investigate offenses that pose a danger to society and to punish the guilty individuals.
The ruling of the Panevėžys Regional Court is final and not subject to appeal.
