The court did not allow Kristijonas Bartoševičius to go abroad
On Monday, the Panevėžys Regional Court denied the request of the defendant Kristijonas Bartoševičius' lawyer to allow his client to travel outside the Republic of Lithuania.
K. Bartoševičius' lawyer submitted the request to the court on June 3. It stated that the defendant would like to travel to two European Union countries—Poland and Romania—from June 8 to July 8.
In rejecting the request, the court noted that the case proceedings have been concluded and the court is in the process of writing the verdict, which it plans to announce on July 10. The defendant's planned return to Lithuania almost coincides with the verdict announcement date, which, in the court's opinion, could become an obstacle for the defendant to attend the hearing if unfavorable circumstances arise during the trip.
The court also pointed out that the request did not provide any data indicating that this trip was necessary for K. Bartoševičius.
"The reason for the trip stated by the defendant's lawyer—tourism, the planned duration of the trip, the time of return, as well as the return of K. Bartoševičius' personal document, taking into account the defendant's procedural status, may impede the administration of justice and not ensure the goals of the criminal process," the panel of judges noted.
The ruling of the Panevėžys Regional Court is not subject to appeal.
