"Courts of States of Mind" Exhibition at Panevėžys Regional Court

"Courts of States of Mind" Exhibition at Panevėžys Regional Court
2025-10-14

In October, marking World Mental Health Day and Constitution Day, a photography exhibition titled "Courts of States of Mind" opened in the ground-floor space of the Panevėžys Regional Court, inviting visitors to view court buildings not as cold institutions but as reflections of human states of being.

The author of the exhibition, titled "Būsenų teismai" (Courts of States of Mind), is Nerijus Ogintas, a psychologist at the Panevėžys Regional Court. The buildings of each court operating within the Panevėžys district are exhibited in a series of three photographs, where the varying colour nuances (from natural to dramatic or black and white) allow the same image to be interpreted differently.

"The court is not just an institution. It is a space where each of us experiences different states: anxiety, curiosity, respect, tension, or calm," says the exhibition's author, Nerijus Ogintas.

This concept is central: the buildings are depicted as reflections of states of being, aiming to reveal the emotional and social connection we have with the space of justice. Therefore, complementing the artistic interpretation, each photograph is labelled not only with the location but also the date, time, and day of the week it was taken. These precise data invite the viewer to contemplate the specific moment and the mood that accompanied it.

Nerijus Ogintas emphasises that the exhibition invites a dialogue about the relationship.

"The hanging photos are like emerging memories. As we walk past them, we also walk past our internal states, composed of the time spent in court, experiences, events, and feelings," the psychologist states. "This exhibition is not about psychology; it is about the relationship. About what the court means to you – whether you work there, are there, or perhaps were there. Or perhaps you only observe from the sidelines what is happening within it."

We invite you to visit the Panevėžys Regional Court and immerse yourself in a visual journey that compels a fresh look at the environment where society and the law intersect.
